Today's Fresh Food from the Garden

Here is the Mother of all of my strawberries I have grown:
Big, isn't it?

We Have Visitors

So I was looking in our rose bushes and I found this:
Baby birds! If you count there is five little chicks. And when the mama comes to feed them a worm, they peck and whistle at her, and they are so CUTE!!! This also shows how smart they are. They hide in a rose bush so no dog or cat comes close to them. Just another way that a garden can help wildlife.

Mississippi Flood

As of May 3, 2011, The Mississippi River is flooding to around 25 ft above the normal level this time of year, flooding most farmland in Tennessee. One way to reduce flooding on farmland is to put sub-surface drainage tile in at about 3 ft deep. That means that there is a pipe with holes in it absorbing the water and directing it some where else (i.e, a place with very little water). You can do this at home with a PVC pipe, wood glue, a saw, and a drill with a twist drill bit and a spade bit the diameter of the pipe you want to use in the planter. All you need to do is:

  1. Measure the length of the planter (make sure that the pipe at least one inch larger than the planter you want to put it in)
  2. Cut the pipe to length
  3. Drill a few holes in the PVC pipe with the twist drill bit
  4. Cut out a hole about the diameter of the pipe you want to put in
  5. Slide the pipe through the hole until it's at the end
  6. Glue the pipe in place
  7. Fill the Planter with dirt
  8. Plant your Flowers or Vegetables
The reason I said to make the PVC pipe an inch or more longer than the planter is so you can drain the water into a bucket and reuse the water. Now the finished product should look like this:

    Bad News

I have bad news for you guys, I found out that I'm allergic to pollen, so I won't be allowed in the garden until the plants stop producing pollen. But I will still post, and maybe sneak a strawberry out for you to see.

    What is this?

Even seasoned gardeners can't identify every kind of plant, can you guys help me find out what this is in english. I only know it in arabic (pronounced Baat-lei), please help me:
